Stop reopening the same folders and hunting for the same working files. The Shelf gives you an instant, persistent surface for files, folders, images, web links, rich text snippets, and your current working knowledge—ready whenever you press Control + Space. Keep it horizontal across your workspace or stand it vertically along the side. The Shelf remembers the orientation you choose.

The Shelf is deliberately small in concept. It does one important thing: keeps what you’re actively using close enough that Finder stops getting in your way.
Keep mixed work together
Files, folders, screenshots, web links, text snippets, and current working knowledge can live together on the same working surface.
Preview before opening
Single-click to preview. Double-click to open. Large images are handled asynchronously so The Shelf stays responsive.
Save snippets as real files
Edit text or code, then save it as .txt, .html, .swift, .css, .json, .md—or any extension you need.
Missing files fail gracefully
If an original file is moved, renamed, deleted or disconnected, The Shelf tells you clearly instead of pretending the item still exists.
Optional multiple shelves
Use Home forever, or create separate shelves when you want them. Organization stays optional rather than becoming another job.
